If you didn’t catch it this morning, there was a great Boston Globe article about the success Plymouth-based racer Arie Ouimet is having in his first year moving up from kart racing to car racing. The 18-year old competes in the VW Jetta TDI Cup Series and he’s kicking it big. He is the Series top rookie – with 5 of 10 races in books this season Arie has three top 5 finishes in a row; top 10 in the other two.

The most recent race at Mid-Ohio he took 2nd place after starting on the pole and breaking the track record in qualifying. The 2nd at Mid-Ohio puts him just six points behind the leader for the season Series Championship – pretty heady stuff for a rookie.

It’s the perfect example of how kart racing grooms young talented racers for a career in professional Motorsports. He started kart racing at age 9 and runs out of F1 Boston and F1 Outdoors and gives lessons to aspiring karters at F1 Outdoor. He was a national champion in both 2008 (Rotax) and 2009 (CKI).

Good luck the rest of the year and congratulations from everyone at F1 Boston to Arie!
